KEMCA UK Charity Report July 2011
KEMCA conducted its annual charity conference in July 2010 at Marriott in Bradford, UK. The programme included a continuous professional development educational session. It was followed by AGM which was well attended. The evening programme highlighted the 150th Anniversary celebrations of parent institute King Edward Medical University, the Social Programme and a ‘raffle & auction’ to raise funds for charity.
August 2010 saw devastating floods across the length & breadth of Pakistan. KEMCA executives & trustees decided to collect funds to support the people affected by these floods. The Fund collection appeal was lead by our Social Secretary Dr Adeel Iqbal. All Kemcolians & non Kemcolians contributed generously & we were able to collect nearly £40,000. All of this would have been impossible without the help of our media co-ordinator Dr Nadeem Akram Butt.
The First Phase: Dr Adeel Iqbal volunteered to go to the South of Pakistan in and around the Dadu area in Sindh to provide food and shelter directly in association with the Midland Doctors Association & Edhi foundation.
Another team was lead by Prof Tareen and Dr Eaisha Tareen. Dr Muhammad Tufail Toor joined this team in Lahore and provided support. The help included:
1. Provision of fifty tents to flood affected families in Layyah district in South Punjab
2. Six month sponsorship of 21 families in the affected area.
3. Support for Local Girls & Boys School
Dr Ashraf Sajid, a Kemcolian from South Punjab, collected more than £10,000 with his own effort and helped the people in flood affected areas. His effort effectively preceded KEMCA’s official campaign.
Future Strategy: KEMCA has a surplus of approximately £12500 and has plans to develop an integrated health and educational development programme with the help of the local community in Layyah. There is an opportunity provided by a local donor who can donate a piece of land to build a small dispensary. We plan to support the Local Boys and Girls School over the next three years in the first instance. We hope at the end of this period the project will be self sustained with minimum help from KEMCA UK.
I shall encourage all Kemcolians & non Kemcolians to extend their help in terms of providing supervision, expertise & money.

Trustee KEMCA UK– July 2011
